On Thursday, September 12th, the Comedy Stop Helsinki festival will kick off with The Comedy Store Presents: Opening Gala at Korjaamo, featuring British star comedians Andrew Mensah and Matt Bragg. From the domestic scene, the stage will see Aatu Raitala, who holds the title of Comedian of the Year 2019, and the evening will be hosted by Finnish-Scottish stand-up comedian Ray Zambino.

With nearly 45 years’ experience in the business and as the premier name in comedy, The Comedy Store is renowned as a breeding ground for new comedy talent, and remains the place to see tomorrow’s stars today. The likes of Eddie Izzard, John Bishop, Jimmy Carr, Rhod Gilbert and Sarah Millican, have all cut their comedy teeth with us. The Comedy Storebring you “The Best In Stand Up” from around the globe, showcasing the brightest names in comedy today.

The Comedy Store Gala is your chance to see an array of world class comedians who will be performing across Comedy Stop 2024 together with your local MC. In this mixed bill extravaganza you have a chance to see a short set form multiple comedians before taking they take to the stage across the weekend to perform the one man show.

ANDREW MENSAH

Andrew Mensah is a stand-up comedian, presenter and actor from London.

Having only begun his comedy career in 2018, Andrew has quickly gained plaudits and was crowned winner of The Cavendish Arms Summer Competition 2019.

His relatable style and ability to speak on his life experience in an unapologetic manner has established him as one of the most exciting emerging comedians on the circuit today.

Alongside his fledgling stand-up career, Andrew is also the host of BT Sport’s hit show ‘What I Wore’ where he interviews footballer’s based on their lives and careers. Through ‘What I Wore’, Andrew has gone on to become a highly sought after and knowledgeable sports presenter. He has conducted sit down interviews with emerging stars like Callum Hudson Odoi, Tammy Abraham, James Maddison and his ground breaking interview with his cousin Ebere Eze on the estate they grew up on did huge numbers on social media with over a million views across YouTube and Twitter.

Andrew Mensah also co-hosts Premier League Productions series ‘Welcome to the Weekend’ and most recently co-hosted Sky’s ‘Fantasy Football League’ co-hosting with Matt Lucas and Elis James.

With a unique, low energy, deadpan style and meticulously crafted material he has been gaining critical acclaim from audiences, promoters and comedians alike.

As well as performing at some of the largest clubs in the UK, he is tour support for Ricky Gervais, Harry Hill, Lloyd Griffith (Soccer AM), Suzi Ruffell, Jason Manford, John Bishop, Phoenix Night’s Clinton Baptiste and Scott Bennett.

He was also selected for Just The Tonic’s Big Value showcase at Edinburgh Festival in 2019 and finished runner up in Leicester Mercury’s Comedian of The Year 2020.

His debut show ‘Matt Bragg has nothing wrong with him’ is touring throughout Autumn 2024.

Aatu charms his audience with his relaxed and confident demeanor, sharp improvisations, and surprising stories. RAY ZAMBINO

Ray Zambino is a Finnish-Scottish English-speaking comedian who masterfully maintains a Scottish accent while ensuring complete understandability. He moved to Finland for love but ultimately fell in love with the country itself.

Ray's humor features hilarious one-liners, observations from the perspective of an outsider in a strange land, and occasionally absurd ideas. He has previously written material for MTV, Yle, and performed on Nelonen Stand Up. Additionally, Ray has worked internationally with the BBC and performed throughout Finland and the UK.

This year, the Scotsman will host the festival's events and will also present his own solo show!

Katherine Ryan

KATHERINE RYAN

Award-winning comedian, writer, presenter, and actress Katherine Ryan is at the top of her game and Battleaxe brings her back out on tour after the sell-out international smash hit that was Missus ended its year long run in 2022.

In 2022, Katherine hosted her own hilarious 6-part global flagship series for Amazon Prime - Backstage with Katherine Ryan. She has also hosted two series of the hit primetime BBC Two jewelry-making competition series All That Glitters.

Her debut 6 x 30’ Netflix sitcom The Duchess - which she wrote, executive produced and starred in - leapt to the top of the UK Netflix chart on its release. She was also only the second UK-based comedian to get a Netflix Global comedy special after Jimmy Carr and the first woman (2017’s In Trouble). Her second special Glitter Room also sits on the platform.

Her debut book The Audacity was published by Bonnier and went straight into the Sunday Times Bestseller list. Her hit podcast Telling Everybody Everything frequently tops the podcast charts.

JUKKA LINDSTRÖM

Jukka Lindström is a stand-up comedian, journalist, screenwriter, and award-winning TV personality. He became known for the political satire show Noin viikon uutiset (About a Week's News) on Yle TV2, which aired from 2014 to 2017. Lindström served as the head writer and on-screen face of the show, which won the Golden Venla award for Best Comedy Program two years in a row.

Lindström is also remembered for the critically acclaimed satirical sketch series Jukka Lindströmin Sivuhistoria (Jukka Lindström's Side Story) on Yle TV1, which aired in 2022. In 2023, he launched a new satire series, Kovan viikon ilta (Tough Week Evening) on Yle TV1, which is still ongoing.

In addition to his own shows, Lindström has appeared in numerous TV programs, including YleLeaks, Uutisvuoto, Pressiklubi, Pitääkö olla huolissaan (Should We Be Worried?), and Hyvät ja huonot uutiset (Good and Bad News). Before his TV career, Jukka worked for a long time as a news reporter for Yle's Radio News. He has studied political science and holds a Master’s degree in social sciences.

Lindström is a leading figure in the Finnish stand-up scene, performing at clubs, theaters, and comedy festivals since 2005. In recent years, he has focused on solo performances in stand-up, where political satire intertwines with personal stories and observations.

Aurie Styla is an award-winning comedian, actor and writer from London. He has strongly established himself as a powerhouse of presence & humor, making him one of the most charismatic & versatile performers in the UK.

Aurie has appeared on several shows including ‘Richard Osman’s House Of Games’ (BBC), ‘Comedy Central Live’, ‘Jonathan Ross’ Comedy Club’ (ITV), ‘The Stand-Up Sketch Show’ (ITV2), ‘Mo Gilligan’s Black British & Funny’ (C4), ‘The Apprentice, You’re Fired’ (BBC) & more. MO GILLIGAN

With his high-energy style and stunning physicality, triple BAFTA winner Mo Gilligan is an international comedy star.

Named ‘The Funniest Man in Britain’ by The Times, Mo’s debut stand up tour was a total sell out, which included a huge two week residency in London’s West End. The show was recorded as his debut Netflix Original Momentum, which enjoyed global release in 190 countries. In 2021, he went back on tour with There’s Mo to Life which achieved another total sell out run, which included a remarkable 10 dates at the Hammersmith Eventim Apollo and a history making O2 Arena show. In 2022 he released his second highly anticipated Netflix special of the smash hit live show to great critical acclaim.

His show The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan (C4) saw him win his first BAFTA for Best Entertainment Performance in 2020, followed by his second for Best Comedy Entertainment Programme in 2022.

TOM BALLARD

Tom Ballard is an award-winning stand up comedian/actor/writer/broadcaster/ person who always tries his best. He’s one of Australia’s hottest comic talents, he’s performed and won acclaim all around the world and he’s very pleased to meet you.

Tom became the youngest ever recipient of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s Best Newcomer Award for his debut hour, Tom Ballard Is What He Is. His show Taxis & Rainbows & Hatred was nominated for Best Newcomer at the Edinburgh Fringe, and his follow up The World Keeps Happening was nominated for Best Show in both Melbourne and Edinburgh.

At 24 years old, Tom hosted Reality Check: his very own ABC TV panel show dissecting the insane world of reality television. He’s interviewed all sorts of political figures on his popular podcast Like I’m A Six-Year-Old, and hosted his own satirical late night show for ABC Comedy, Tonightly with Tom Ballard, which was a very naughty show that the conservative Australian government didn’t like very much at all.
